FOCUS AS A MECHANISM FOR EXPLORATION, VISUALIZATION, AND PROBLEM SOLVING: A MULTIDISCIPLINARY SYNTHESIS WITH APPLICATION TO THE INSPIRATION ECONOMY
Author: Mohamed Buheji
ABSTRACT
This paper integrates two previously separate lines of inquiry into a single robust framework. The first treats focus as a dynamic cognitive mechanism—a family of attentional strategies deployed across exploration, visualization, and problem solving. The second treats focus as a foundational construct of the Inspiration Economy, where focus converts latent inspiration into measurable socio-economic value.
The synthesis proceeds in three movements. First, it establishes the cognitive mechanics of focus, drawing on experimental psychology and cognitive neuroscience to show that focus is not a unitary capacity for concentration but a repertoire of attentional modes that must be matched to task demands. Second, it establishes the socio-economic function of focus, drawing on the Inspiration Economy publication list and three Arabic-language resources to show that focus is the operational mechanism through which scarcity thinking is reversed, inspiration currency is generated, complex problems are solved, resilience is built, and meaning is engineered. Third, it demonstrates that field integration—the structured immersion of practitioners in real socio-economic contexts—is the mechanism that unites the cognitive and socio-economic accounts: the field is the gymnasium in which the attentional flexibility described by cognitive science is actually developed, tested, and refined.
The paper proposes an integrated Tri-Functional Focus Framework that specifies how exploratory, visualization, and problem-solving focus operate at individual, organizational, and community levels, and how field integration amplifies all three.
